In order to take advantage of the received benchmark results, you might want to follow the steps below as part of your improvement initiative:

  1. Analyze the resulting time log together with the benchmark results. Concentrate on those activities, which show a considerable deviation from average according to the benchmark. For each row in the time log, answer the following questions:
    • Was the activity worth doing at that time?
    • Was the amount time spent on the activity appropriate?
    • Would I do it the same way again?
  2. Write down the identified strengths and weaknesses of yours.
  3. Search for the root cause by both identified strengths and weaknesses.
  4. Define the improvement objectives and the respective means to utilize
  5. Apply the means subsequently (one at a time)
